Keeping notes that can change with my understanding

Evergreen explanations and dated journals serve different purposes.

Two kinds of writing

Trading Notes separates evolving topic notes from dated journal entries. Topic notes can be revised as understanding improves. Journal entries preserve what was believed at a particular time. These formats answer different questions: what do I understand now, and what did I think then?

Let ideas connect

The project uses Quartz to turn linked writing into a static site with backlinks, tags, and a navigable graph. Instead of relying only on folders, the structure grows through relationships between notes. A reader can follow an idea into another related idea.

Keep the record honest

The distinction between revision and preservation is useful beyond this project. Updating an explanation can make it clearer. Leaving a dated reflection intact can reveal how thinking changed. Both are valuable, as long as the reader knows which kind of document they are reading.

A habit worth carrying forward

This blog follows the same spirit: document the work, explain the useful idea, and leave room for a better understanding later. This entry concerns the design of a note-taking project, rather than recommendations about trading.
